Sermon : Wandering in the Wilderness

Introduction – I had just started working and was looking forward to building a career in the secular world. I was 24 at that time. About a year into my job, I started developing a pain at the back of my left leg, which kept getting progressively worse. Pain killers helped to take the pain away, but once they were stopped, the pain came back with greater discomfort. Eventually, my parents had me examined by a Surgeon. After checking me out, he asked me to be warded in hospital immediately since I had a problem on my spine.

Thus began a very distressing period of my life.

So far in this series, we have discussed the following prayer strategies of Nehemiah.

  • He prayed fervently
  • He focused on the greatness of the One he was praying to
  • He prayed for favor
  • He prayed the promises of God
  • He prayed against resistance
  • He prayed for strength
  • He personalized his prayers

Many years ago, the music band Starship recorded a hit song called ‘We built this city on rock ‘n roll’. However, Nehemiah built the walls of Jerusalem on prayer, and through the guidance, wisdom and courage he received as a result of his prayers.

Introduction to Waters of Refreshing:

I’m sure you have heard or read of harrowing stories of people who had to survive in desert-like conditions with either a limited supply or no supply of water. It’s a deadly place to be in when one has to literally live off the land, till help arrives.

The people of Israel had just come through what was a life changing moment. The Lord had miraculously opened up the Red Sea, with its abundant supply of water, to enable them to cross over unscathed to the other side. It was a once in a lifetime moment! I wonder sometimes whether it was a much larger version of what we experience, when we go through a modern day aquarium found in theme parks, with sea creatures all around and above us! But, from the Red Sea, let’s see what happened on their journey to ‘waters of refreshing’.

Opening

When it was time to enter our elder son to school, we needed what was (for us), a fairly large sum of money, for his entrance and school fees and other expenses. Around that time I was led to call and pray for a gentleman during the Christmas season. As I did so, the Lord led me to pray what would be a prophetic prayer over him. This resulted in him receiving a large sum of money in an unexpected way. In return, this gentleman blessed us with a gift that was exactly what we needed for our son’s school and other expenses!!

Proposition – Our God delights to provide for His children

Lessons From The Life Of Joseph – Part 5

This is a 10 minute edit of a sermon preached at the People’s Church, Sri Lanka on Sunday, 13th March 2016. The sermon was based around the time when Joseph was put in prison.

Lessons from the life of Joseph – Part 5This week we look at lessons Joseph learnt through his prison experience. We see that even in prison the Lord was with Joseph and he caused everything he did to succeed. The Prison factor is significant to us because that is one of the hardest experiences in our life. It is there that the Lord teaches us perseverance. If you are going through a prison experience caused by someone else, or even because of your own doing, take some time to see how you can get out of it. We want to encourage you to be a part of a small group (cell group) for and extended study over these 6 weeks. If you are not connected to a small group or want to know more about it, speak to one of the ushers or full time pastors regarding one. We will be glad to help you.

Lessons From The Life Of Joseph – Part 3

This is a 10 minute edit of a sermon preached at the People’s Church, Sri Lanka on Sunday, 28th February 2016. The sermon was based around the time when Joseph proved to be a good steward in Potiphar’s home. In return, God made Joseph to prosper in all his work.

Lessons from the life of Joseph – Part 3In the 3rd part of our series, “Lessons from the life of Joseph,” we talk about another area God was developing in this life. We focus on the season Joseph spent in the house of Potiphar. From a month ago of being the favorite son, we see Joseph’s world turned upside down being sold into slavery. But God was still building the dreamer to a leader that would become one of the most influential people in the world at that time. If you have missed any of the Episodes before do, get in touch with us to order a sermon DVD. We want to encourage you to be a part of a small group (cell group) for and extended study over these 6 weeks. If you are not connected to a small group or want to know more about it, speak to one of the ushers or full time pastors regarding one. We will be glad to help you.
